Removing Tolex I know this would be in the archives, but don't know how to get to those now! Any suggestions on how to remove old tolex? Heat? Thanks! Steve |

I've done this on a pair of BF FENDER TWINS & an older MARSHALL 4X12 cab...I clamped the cabinets to my shop-bench...CAREFULLY used my BELT-SANDER to (layer-at-a-time) remove the bumpy blackish glue residue...FINISHING SANDER for edges & corners...B careful w / belt-sander...it WILL CUT IN if you're not carefull...BTW... I did try laquer thinner (solvents...etc...) which will take you forever...(and make you "high" at the same time!...Hope that helps!...Frank |

| earl | You might try one of those heat guns used to strip paint. I would use it only outside to avoid the fumes. |

| nic | YIKES! I was hoping I would be able to do this myself... I don't wanna sand the tolex off! My SFSR has it's tolex peelin in places already, I assumed I could use hot water to remove the rest. I want to remove it in sheets so I have a pattern to cut my new tolex from. Does that stuff stretch and shrink much? This is putting my plans on hold... nic |

| fj | ofcourse you would FIRST...PEEL OFF TOLEX!!!...then have at it with sander!...not easy, ...BUT... The NEW TOLEX will NOT come off this way...Frank |

| Cono F. | Would you folks happen to know a good way of removing fuzzy carpet (instead of tolex) from a speaker cab? Tolex is way easier to remove. That fuzzy $hit really sticks to the wood! |
