What to do with TV tubes
Sometime ago a neighbor gave me a big box of tubes. Her late husband was a old tv technician. I believe that most of the tubes are for tube television sets. Some of the tubes are probably for black and white sets!

Does anybody have any ideas what I should do with these tubes?

Well, what do you have? I'm always on the lookout for a couple of different kinds of tubes -- email me for a list of stuff I buy. On the other tip, though, some of these tubes are applicable to guitar amp use. Many old sets used output pentodes like 6bq5s and 6f6s which are useable. You might not find any 12xx7 types but you'll probably dig up a lot of 6av6s and 12av6s which are great for homebrew tube preamps... Check out my website for plans for a pentode tube preamp!

Hmmm, welll, some of these are probably HV rectifiers (1B3, etc,) and damper diodes (6AW4, etc.) and HV regulators (6BK$, etc.) which have limited, if any, audio use. A neat "tube-head" decorative touch is to gently heat them with a propane torch and slowly cool them. The vacuum "wraps" the glass envelope around the internal elements making some fairly strange "art". The funny thinks is that the heaters usually continue to work so you can have a high current, low light set of X-mas tree lights :>.
