Who makes the best 4x12 speaker cabinet for heavy metal type stuff? I don't play heavy metal, but I always liked that type of equipment; the kind of stuff that makes you sound like Slayer; please don't laugh at me, its just some weird thing. I was looking into a Carvin (the simple 400W Carvin ones with the "British" type speakers.) is Carvin good for that kind of stuff, or does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Go with Boogie. The recto cabs are the best. The 2X12 recto is great too.

have you ever tried a Hiwatt cabinet? I don't konw if they are good for heavy metal, but they are great cabinets. I would recommend you try that, would anybody recommend a Hiwatt for metal though? Carvins are good especially for the price but there are better ones out there.

I would think that the actual brand of the cabinet wouldn't be as important as the type of speakers the cabinet was loaded with. I'm not trying to say that a carvin cabinet is as good a quality build as a hiwatt, but I think the speakers will have more of an effect on getting a good metal tone.

Try a 4x12 of Celestion G12M-70's. A "straight" 4x12 will give you a bit more lows and low mids. Also, open up the cab and check if it has batting (fiberglass or foam) inside. Try the cab both with and without. Great cabs for metal that you can pick up cheap are old Ampeg V-4 4x12s.
