Resistor Choise Help : Carbon composition? Metal Film? Carbon File?
There's some brand of carbon composition resistor.

Including Allen Bradley.. Stackpole.. Xicon .. etc

I heard AB are the best.

but expensive.. hard to get... bad tolence..

then how about inexpensive Stackpole or Xicon?

or other type of resistor?

let me know your opinion

What's the application?

My experience is that carbon resistors sound warm and natural while carbon film and metal film resistors sound bright and brittle. NOS Allen Bradley carbon resistors are readily available from some specialty dealers. Be careful though. The good ones were made in Milwaukee, WI back in the sixties. Later AB switched production to Mexico and quality went down hill.

I'm not saying these various types of resistors sound 100% identical, but...

There are many great-sounding amps out there that use carbon-film or metal-film resistors. Factors such as the circuit, tubes, and speakers have a lot more to do with whether or not an amp sounds warm or too bright and brittle than the type of resistors used.

I have several blackface Fenders which have been completely recapped and have had most of the resistors replaced with film-types (also they have some minor mods to improve midrange response). Rather than sounding harsh, I think there's some extra clarity and transparency to the tone that I enjoy.

Has any tried the ceramic composition resistors from mouser?
