Matt Variable wattage amps
Has anyone checked out Kevin O'Connors variable output wattage amps on the London Power web site? What a totally cool idea! How does he do it?? It sounds like a good idea for extended tube life and hearing loss.

Those amps have separate power supplies (separate transformers) for the heaters, the power amp B+, and the preamp B+. While keeping the heaters lit at their normal 6.3v level, the anode operating voltages can be varied thus changing tonality and power output.

That would mean the bias supply(ies) would have to change as well (I remember seeing a cathode/fixed switch). So that power (wattage) pot must be a huge guanged wirewound device or something. Maybe it's a lot more complicated than that?

He's got some newer high powered variable versions available, but I was referring to the lower power ones that use cathode bias in the output stage.

Yes, I have checked that site out, and I wondered the same thing as you. Nothing on the Harmony Central review data base. I e-mailed them and tried to find out if I could try the 50 watt version out somehow. No response so far. Anyone know how these amps sound?
