Soldano HR50 - Replace with Allen Old Flame? I took my HR50 apart and cleaned the circuit board with alcohol. Now it works like it did when I bought it. However, the tone stack Does need to be altered for me. I was thinking of selling this and buying an Old Flame head kit from Allen. Is anyone familiar with this amp? Does it have that beautiful deep clear sound of old Fenders? Just looking for some opinions. I don't think the Soldano will ever give me a good bottom. The output transformer is too small, I think. Any thoughts from anyone familiar with Allen Amps would sure be appreciated. |

I would ask about the Allen amps over on the Weber board. I have seen some reports over there that are very positive. I have no experience with them myself. good luck bw |

| anonymous | Allen's amps are excellent! I built his Old Flame Head kit which circuit wise, is a dual 6L6 Fender - like Tremolux,Pro,Super etc .... BUT .. with a much better reverb (Dwell,Tone and Mix controls), a very well designed Master Volume, and a way cool "Raw" switch that bypasses the tone stack (yielding about 20db extra gain). Allen amps most definately have that 'deep clear sonorous Fender Blackface voice' my Old Flame sounds so good (I play a stock (for now at least |

Do you know what sort of master volume scheme the Allen amps use? The typical pre-phase-inverter MV is pretty useless on Fender amps, so he must be doing something a little trickier -- maybe something like Ken Fischer's post-PI master? Michael Tousek |
