To the anonymuous guy....Trace is constantly online taking the time to help many others,myself included.It is people like you that make a great site poor by whining and complaining.Why don't you take your attitude to some other site and get a life! John S.

OH NO!!!!

Guys, please stop! I hopped in here and finally saw the BBS back online and this thread is starting to look like a scene out of alt.guitar.amps. What makes this the best place on the net is the lack of bickering and miscellaneous petty nonsense. Let's just get back to the business of tweaking amps!

Hi, John. I'm no expert on Soldano, but from looking at the SLO100, X88 and SP77 preamps, and the YamahaSoldano T100 (schematics at Steve Ahola's site, http://www.techaccessinc.com/blueguitar), the basic topologies are pretty similar. My guess is that Soldano found his signature tone topology and isn't going to reinvent the wheel. Maybe you could use these to get a basic idea what's going on in your HR50? The tone stacks are all post cathode follower like the Marshall and tweed Bassman. If the tone controls are wired properly and working, you should get some kind of control.

What I did on my SLO100 preamp clone (should be similar to the HR50) to fix the shrill icepick sound, was as follows;

1. Changed the treble cap in the tone stack from 470p to 220p.

2. Coupling cap after v1a to .047. (look at x88r schematic)

3. Did the so called "Warren Hayes mod" to the preamp section. see below.

This is was from a post on alt.guitar.amps!

"The mod is simply removing (or installing a mini toggle to engage/disengage) one capacitor that is across the overdrive channel's gain pot, this allows for a "less bright" or fuller tone at lower gain settings )

I also did a mod to the power section that dramatically increased the lowend...it is a cap and a resistor

wired in parallel (100k and .02 MFD) that is inserted between the impedance selector switch and the circuit board (there is one wire) both of these mods are easy to do and Bill at Soldano told me how over the phone."

With my slo100 style preamp going into a modified spitfire preamp section (as an effects return); into a vox ac30 style poweramp (with the treble cut control); into 2 12" Celestions is one of my best lead / crunch sounds yet.

I get a URL not found message with this address. Anyone know a way into Steve Ahola's site?
