Mesa Preamp tubes What is the difference between the Mesa SPAX7 preamp tubes compared to their standard 12AX7 tube.Is the SPAX7 worth twice the price,and are these quality tubes?Any tone differences between these 2 tubes.John S. |

| MJ Harnish | The SPAX7 supposedly is very low microphonics; they put a shrink wrap sleeve over them to further dampen vibration. Perrsonally I don't think most (if any) of Mesa's tubes are worth the extra money; Lord Valve (as an example) tests his tubes and will guarantee they won't be microphonic out of the box while at the same time charging much less.
