Schematic Drawing program I am looking for a program, hopefully shareware, to draw tube amp schematics. I dont need to model, or do circuit board layout. I dont want to be restricted by number of pins or objects. I dont mind using graphics to create some of my own objects if necessary. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Bill R. |

Bill, I use paint shop pro, a free program I downloaded off the web. I usually open up a file of a schematic of an amp I've downloaded from the web, then cut, copy, and paste my butt away. I've been doing it like this for awhile and have gotten right quick at it (learn keyboard shortcuts). Hope that helps some. jason |

Jason: Cutting and pasting from an existing schematic using a paint program is one way to do it (especially if only a few changes are required). But bit-map files have their limitations (large file size, limited resolution) so it's also good to use a draw program for some projects. Bruce Collins and others have been making some great drawings using Mayura Draw which is shareware program. The difference is that paint programs deal with the individual pixels while draw programs define the lines, shapes and text so that they can be scaled without the "jaggies". A full page schematic produced by a draw program might look very sharp as a GIF file at under 50megs but a similar drawing from a paint program might be 100 megs or more. Thanks! Steve Ahola P.S. I've been using TurboCAD 3.05 for a few years and have gotten spoiled by a lot of the time-saving features. The new version (6.0) comes in three "strengths" ranging from maybe $50 to $150. |

Jason and Steve: thanks for the replies. I downloaded Mayura Draw and I think it's just what I needed. With the grid and "snap to" function, it makes a very neat drawing. Thanks, Bill R. |

Bill: Bruce Collins had me upload this template file in case anyone want to use it. Since Mayura Draw does not support multiple windows, just open a copy of template.pdx and drag the components around as you like, making copies as needed for the various tube sockets or whatever. If that link doesn't work with this temporary BBS software, send me an e-mail and return it with the link. |

Steve, You just made life a whole lot easier. I downloaded Mayura Draw and just spent thirty minutes trying to get a decent looking resistor, got frustrated and thhought I'd surf awhile and find this template file. This is excellent. Thanks Steve and Bruce! jason |
