How to use an Oszi Hello, How can I connect an Oszi to an guitar amp speaker out? Shell I use something like a breakout box? I even don´t know the basics how to messure. I have a soundcard based freq. generator and an two channel oszi. I think, it is ok for simple amp check and biasing. Is there an articel were I can teach myself, or is someone there who can tell me, how to wire up the set and what I should see on screen? Thanks for help and any hint, pepps |

You can just connect the ‘scope across the speaker ground to ground and amp output to ‘scope input. Strum your guitar and watch the waveform. You’ll see the waveform clip on peaks if you play loud. It’s surprising how clipped the signal has to get before you can hear the distortion. Turn down the vol on the guitar and wind up the gain, vol, treb and presence on the amp. If you get a sudden increase in the signal on the ‘scope wind up the timebase to check for the dreaded HF instability. It will look like a sine wave rather than the usual random noise. Dave |
