nic split coil humbuckers?
My DIY TELE thinline is on it's way to my door, at least the neck and body are. I am gonna need to route the pu's for humbuckers eventually so I decided to start some reserch now.

As far as humbuckers are concerned do you think split coils are tonally worth it? I think I might go with a MEGA switch arangement. What pick ups should I look into that are traditional looking w/covers and split coiled??? Brand? Model?

thanks,

Re: split coil humbuckers?
IMHO, humbuckers that have been tapped do not get the full nuance of the single coil sound. I always end up using the humbucker as a humbucker, and using a sc to get a sc sound.

imho i'd mostly agree with john. although you can get much thinner/brighter sounds with some phasing, and/or series parallel wiring. to me, the parallel sound is cooler than the "single" coil-tapped humbucker. btw, i just tore open my les paul pu's and tapped them myself, "jimmy page" style with four push pulls. the taps are there, you just need to remove the electrical tape. definately worth the $25 and hour(or more!) of time...

nic-
If you have not bought pickups yet, I strongly
suggest that you go to -billlawrence.com
and take a look, If you buy, you won't regret it.
I agree with Mike- Go parallel, not split,
tone is great and no hum.
