Re: Joe Barden Standard Strat Pickup
Since you've ruled out all of the other possibilities, I suspect that the pickup is defective. Have you measured the dc resistance with a meter and compared that to the mfg specs?

DAve,

i installed a Barden Strat Std p/u in my 99 Amer Delux

strat (replacing a "Noiseless" stock p/u) and the

Barden is MUCH louder .. sounds like either a phasing

prob or faulty p/u ...

The Barden Strat Standard (bridge position) has less output when used alone. Therefore, I have ruled out a phasing problem. When I switch to the stock neck or middle pickup, there is an increase in output. When used in the "in-between" setting (between stock middle pickup and Barden bridge pickup), the output is a less than the stock middle but more than the Barden. I have emailed Mr Barden asking him how he would like me to test his pickup. I presume he will have me check resistance...

I measured the resistance of some of my guitars, here is what I found:

Stock '57 USA reissue Strat:

Stock Neck: 5.8k ohms

Stock Middle: 5.9k ohms

Stock Bridge: 5.9k ohms

'57 USA reissue Strat with Joe Barden Standard in bridge position:

Stock Neck: 5.8k ohms

Stock Middle: 6k ohms

JOE BARDEN Bridge: 4.18k ohms

Les Paul Classic:

Stock Neck: 8.4k ohms

Stock Bridge: 14.8k ohms

Does the Joe Barden Bridge Standard measure correctly? Shouldn't a bridge pickup be equal or greater resistance than the neck or middle pickups?

The Strat and Barden PUs are completely different designs.

Perhaps a Barden bridge PU has a higher Rdc as a

Barden neck PU....

Doc

Did the Barden pickup come with four (4) wires?

I wonder if the two coils are wired in parallel, instead of series.....4.18k seems low, but I don't know the factory specs. What does Joe have to say about that DCR measurement?
