pickup's wire basic question I read that most Fender pickups are wired using 42 wire. What's measure unity is it related to? Does it refer to inches, millimeters or what? Thanks in advance Giacomo |

The wire number is from a standard wire gauging system. A few systems exist, but the most common are the British and the American. The wire numbers used by US manufacturers (Fender) are AWG, which stands for american wire gauge. The wire diameter can be determined by knowing its gauge, but this is for the copper only, and does not take the insulation into account. Different insulating materials have different thicknesses. If you can find a Machinery Handbook, they have all the wire gauge tables. Know anybody that works in a machine shop? They may have a copy. Sheet metal is sometimes measured using wire gauge sizes. |

Found tables on the Net: http://kowloon.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cboles/wiregauge.html http://www.icctool.com/webdoc12.htm They list gauges up to 40. Thank you. Giacomo | |
