Sears "Meteor" model 1430??
Hi Folks:

So who can give me some info on this little beast? Picked it up on a lark, it works although very quietly... It's the first tube amp I've picked up that doesn't have a power tranny?? the O/T is mounted directly on the massive 6" speaker (skr code 1056-016) tube complement as follows: 35w4 rectifier?? 50c5 power and 12au6 preamp. the code on the volume pot is 137939 and one of the caps is 761 936 so I'm guessing 1959 or 1960? Does anyone know where I can find a schematic for this it certainly looks all original including the tubes.. I don't think it puts out more than a couple of watts. How do these work without a power tranny do the tubes run on AC?

Any info is appreciated as always.

Thanks

Colin

Well 35 + 50 + 12 is... 97, so it sounds like you have a series-filament setup intended for 100VAC.
And a 70-140V B+ (depending on rectifier circuit) sounds believeable.

No PT, no isolation, big safety hazard!

As an historical curiosity, it's cool, just be sure you plug into an isolation tranny so as not to kill yourself.

add iso tranny?
Hi Don:

What about adding an isolation transformer to it? Any idea what I'd need or sources? I'd like to be able to use the amp without my hand buzzing!! I guess this must be wired up like the old tube radios but at least with those you weren't touching the metal chassis while holding a guitar with steel strings....

Absolutely. Unfortunately, I'm too lame to have a resource to point you to.

R.G., SteveA, Randall, Gil or Mr. Conner should be of some help.

Colin,

Antique Electronic Supply has isolation trannies - my old trick is to use any two indentical tranny's I have (seem to have a lot of computer monitor PS trannies) and hook the secondaries to each other. Hook one of the primaries to the line and the other to an outlet or wire it directly to the amp's power line in.

Oh, add switches, grounded plugs, fuses and all of that other good safety stuff.

Picked up an isolation tranny...
Don and GW:

Thanks for the replies, I stopped by my favorite electronics shop this morning to pick up some fresh caps for the amp and asked the owner about an iso tranny. Turns out he had some older ones in the back so I got a plug in Hammond 171 series, 115v 60hz 100VA primary, and no more shocks!! Best $10 cdn I ever spent!! the little beast doesn't sound all that bad although now that I've cleaned the crud off the tubes it seems that what is supposed to be a 12au6 turns out to be a 12ba6?? next stop a set of new tubes.. s/b ~ $15 total!!

Thanks again
