Rust on transformers
I'm sure this has been covered before, but I didn't find anything in the archives. What's the best thing to do with surface rust on the laminates? Try and deal with it, or just leave it alone?

Thanks in advance.

I usually just seal it in with a good quality enamel.

Stuart, there's a product called "One Step" that's a latex based "gell" that converts the rust into a primer. I've used it and it works good with about 3 light coats. It's made by MarHyde and it should be available at an auto parts house. You can paint right over it if you wish. I wouldn't get aggressive with the rust, just knock off the loose stuff with a sturdy rag.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't come across "One Step" over here (UK). I'll probably knock the loose stuff off & lacquer them.

I've always used that stuff sold in auto shops for neutralizing rust on auto bodies. It goes on clear and then turns black when it does it's thing. It seems to work well as a 1-step neutralizer/sealer for trannies. The brand mane escapes me now... but you'll know it when you see it or ask for it.
