Marshall SuperBass
Remember those? I have one. It was built in 1970 (according to the stickers inside). It's a 100watt all-tube monster. But I don't use it anymore. Did Marshall ever make a matching bass cabinet for this amp? Does anyone know the history of these amps?

Yes they did make a bass cabinet for these. In fact Hendrix supposedly used 'em for guitar. These amps are basically the same thing as the guitar amps, based on the Tweed Bassman circuit. The short story about the history behind these is that they developed out of the JTM-45. Also historically Jack Bruce used 'em......remember Cream? Who could forget! These are great guitar amplifiers! There are only several component changes neeeded to make one into the Superlead. The signal circuit in the Super Bass had mostly the same component values as the Bassman, where they changed a few on the Superleads. The leads had a 33k slope resistor where the bass had the tweed value of 56k. The treble cap on the bass amp was 250pf and the lead was 500pf. The PI output coupling caps were .02 on the lead and .1 on the bass. The bass didnt have a couple of extra brightness caps on it at the summing resistors, and volume controls and the second gain stage .68 bypass that was used on the lead amp wasnt installed. Also the bass amp had .022 coupling caps from both preamp channels where the lead amp used a .0022 on the bright channel. These changes make for subtle(IMO) differences in tone. Personally I prefer the lead amps without some of the shrillness caps....oops did I say shrillness?......I meant brightness.
