"     Probably nothing that a little WD40 on a Brillo pad   wouldn't have cured. These plugs and the jacks can corrode over time. A litle cleaning can work wonders.     RE

Bare	No such luck !... the wire was internally corroded and a bit brittle as well as the plug being corroded. Ever carefully examined thity+ year old lamp cord from a really cheap old lamp??   Seemed more than sensible to discard the thing in it's entirety as new Switchcraft items are very inexpensive to buy.
