The power tubes in my Marshall 6100 were wired this way when I got it too.

If you think the '79 model years are bad, you should check out 82 onwards models. It all got far worse.

Amen to that Liam. I have seen some ABYSSMAL examples of workmanship in 90's Marshalls - really tatty and insubstantial. I have to say that quality of finishing, soldering, etc. in my '79 JMP MKII 50 watt head is great - maybe I just got lucky!

Melanhead

I have an 78 and an 82. Both sound great with the right amount of attention!!

I agree Melanhead - best amp I've ever owned. So full and warm sounding, with balls a plenty. Two things: (1) swapped 470pf from RC circuit for the 1nf on the preamp pot - kills excessive brightness (2)I use the low sens. input to bypass the 1st preamp stage - crank MV to 10 and adjust preamp vol.until she's crunching - GE-7 with a midrange boost for added dirt. Heaven!
