| Dan Z | Re: Electar 30 -> Wreck Express conversion board Hey Steve Is there room in the cab for a 12" speaker? $130 bucks seems pretty good for a mod test bed. Obviously the board is coming out, but what about the other components? Thanks, Dan |

Dan: Is there room in the cab for a 12" speaker? There is plenty of room for a 12" speaker in the amp. I like the amp a lot with the cheap 12" Mojo speaker from the cab I use for testing so I will cut the baffle board to accommodate that. It does sound best with both of my Boogie cabs plugged in: the 4x10 with "vintage" alnicos and the 1x12 with the MC90. Steve Ahola |

Re: Electar 30 -> Wreck Less conversion board Much better! Now is this the one we were talking about putting a MV in? That 1M resistor tied to the .1uF cap (.1uF is probably way too big by the way) is where your 1Ma master volume pot would go. I know you are using that 10K Rk on the stage ahead of this but it still is going to have a crushing signal there. Maybe you could exchange the 1M resistor with a 1Ma pot and connect the wiper to the grid junction of the driver and the low end of the pot to the junction of the 1k5 and 56K cathode load resistor. It looks like you could have the 1M in series with the wiper of the MV. Is that what you are doing? Unless that eyelet right under where it says: V2P7.. is grounded. Yes? #4 is also ground? Where is the schematic for this? Fish paper! That was funny too. Bruce |

Bruce: Not knowing if I might add a pre-PI MV later I added a spare eyelet between the "0.1uF" PI input cap and the 1M resistor you mentioned so that is just a jumper there. I used the Trainwreck Express version A1a circuit up to and including that 0.1uF cap that Ken Fischer seems to like. I soldered in a 0.022uF polyprop cap there at this time. BTW since I am not using NFB do you think that I should use a smaller cap there? For the PI and output section I am using a combination of several cathode-biased EL84 designs: the Peavey Classic 20 and various Vox amps along with suggestions from Mike Donovan who turned his Electar 30 into a cathode-biased BF Princeton. Where is the schematic for this? With this based loosely on a Ken Fischer design I figured that to do it right I better follow his example and dispense with printed schematics... Steve Ahola P.S. The fishpaper was from an e-buddy. You can buy large sheets of it from anyone who sells gasket material in bulk. It is very similar to what Fender used to use only there is no carbon in it to make it black. |

Re: Electar 30 -> Wreck Lite conversion board Well, here is the stuffed board— I just need to wire up the filaments, the tone stack and the tube sockets... guess I won't be firing it up tonight! http://www.ampage.org/blueguitar/e30xp_bd.jpg Steve Ahola P.S. Bruce was asking about the 100R/5W resistors in the power supply between the PT and the rectifier; as he surmised, they are there to drop the B+ a little bit and to add a touch of sag. (Mike D. used them in his E30 project and I liked the voltages he reported.) BTW it was suggested that I may have the preamp tubes configured wrong in my Wreck Express drawings; with only 3 stages in the preamp the first stage is probably all by itself (probably as the second triode— pins 6 to 8— for less noise) while V2 would be used for the 2nd and 3rd stages. The important difference here would be that the second stage is connected to the B+4 power supply tap, which has a higher voltage than B+5. Connecting the 2nd stage to the higher voltage would presumably increase the overall gain and clean headroom for that stage to some extent, but then again that might cause the third stage to distort sooner... |
