Anyone seen the boutique amp article in August issue of Guitar Player?
There were some cool amps and good ideas in there! There was an amp called the Dragster that had a 6L6 and an EL-34 in parallel. Sounds like a neat idea! I was thinking of doing something along these lines with a 6V6 and a 6F6 or 6K6, maybe one metal tube and one glass. I would make the preamp like a Marshall non-MV plexi (the section before the PI). Is this idea practical?

Just what is the definition of a "boutique amp" anyway??

I guess it's what we few homebrew amp makers build! I think that their definition is a high dollar, low production amp that is a little out of the ordinary.

I didn't read the article, but the idea of using two different types of tubes of about the same plate dissipation isn't that new.

If you have separate bias balance pots, you can set them up in balance at idle, then when you start crankin' they will have different overdrive characteristics, resulting in some potentially cool sounds.

Just another neat idea in the wacky world of tubes.
