HR DeVille: Able to run 6v6's?
Can a HR DeVille be properly biased to run 6v6's? Also, the volume controls on this amp are extremely sensitive. Would different taper/value pots help this problem? Thanks for your help.

The HR DeVille has too high of plate voltage to safely run 6V6's. It's about 470 if I recall correctly.

I don't know if you'll have any luck finding a replacement pot with a better taper. That 0-60mph thing is a problem on all the Blues/HR DeXxxxx amps.

Jack, I have one of the first Blues DeVilles (not the Hot Rod) and it has the same problem. I cured it by taking the preamp out to a small box with a 10K pot in it, used it as a master volume, and returned it to the power amp in. Now I set my clean channel preamp volume where I want it, and use the external pot for a master master-volume. Try it, you'll like it!

Thanks Steve, I'll give it a try.
