Harsh Delta Blues My peavey Delta Blues amp has a harsh tone when I use my Epi Del Rey ( high output humbuckers) through this amp. I believe that this is due to the solid state rectifier. Is there any way to remedy this? Will a change of tubes help? I am using the original tubes and the amp is about 4 years old. I think that the original tubes are Sovtek. there are no markings on the tubes but I remember reading some where that that is what Peavey uses in their amps. Chris B |

hey chris. I also have found the DB a bit harsh at high volumes. I'm using a strat. I retubed recently with JJ's from Eurotubes.com and that helped quite a bit. However, if you do likewise make sure you ask for a hot set (talk to bob, he's very helpful). The DB has plenty of clean headroom so you'll still stay clean but the hotter running tubes will round off the highs a bit. You'll also have much more treble range so you'll probably have to back off the tone a bit. As for the SS rectifier, i'm not sure if this is an issue with harshness. Usually a tube rectifier adds a certain bounciness, particularly in the lows. But i think this would be an extensive mod since the amp is PCB board. Let me know how it goes. Or what you find out. n. |
