frank #2 greenback vs. vintage30
Hi folks,

What would be a better allround speaker,
a celestion greenback or a celestion vintage30?
My styles are from jazz to (hard)rock!
From clean to heavy distortion!
Any thoughts??
Thanks a lot!

If you are talking about original greenbacks, those are "top of the line", IMO.

If you are talking about the reissue greenbacks, I prefer the Vintage 30s.

I would also add that it depends on the type of cabinet - open back or closed, it makes a BIG difference! Greenbacks do not like the open backed cabinet in the bluesbreaker - they tend to fart out!

I'm awaiting some G12H-30s for my bluesbreaker and we'll see how they work out... anyone want to buy a pair of greenbacks? (seriously)

I guess it depends on the amp you'll be using; I hate Vintage 30's with Marshalls; no bottom and ice pickin' highs; but with Fenders I absolutely love the sound (go figure...).
BTW, greenback RIs fart out on closed backs too...
Between the two, probably I'd choose the Vintage 30's; IMHO, better quality speaker.

I will use the speakers in a closed 2x12 half stack
marshall cabinet!
I thought the vintage30 speaker had a lot of low-end, because alot of boutique amp builders use them
in their high priced cabs!!
On this moment i use the celestion g12-75t speakers that came standard with this cab, but how will the
vitage30's sound compared to the originalg12-75t?
Thanks a lot!

Well, at least in my book, that's not big low end; maybe I'm in minority on this, a lot of people raves about this speaker...
The G12T-75 has some scooped mids, more a hard rock thing; Vintage's has more heavy mids; you can hear sound samples of both (and other Celestions) in the celestion site (www.celestion.com).
I wouldn't spend $250+ bucks on a pair of these though, I'd pick a Weber instead anyday.

I recently switched back to playing hard rock (again). I had my original greenbacks out of my Marshall cab in two Fender Bassman/Bandmaster 2x12 cabs (the small ones)for several years. I started using my Marshall 50W 2204 with the cabs, but I couldn't keep up with the other guitarist (MESA Triaxis and 2:90 w/MESA Rectifier cabs w/Vintage 30s). I switched to using one of his MESA 4x12s until I put my Greenbacks back in my Marshall 4x12 B cabinet. BOOM! I had so much more tone with TONS of low end with the Marshall cab than the MESA cab w/Vintage 30s or the Fender cabs when they were loaded with the Greenbacks. I wired the cab to the original series/parallel, 16ohm load. I am very happy with the greenbacks back in the Marshall cab, though I've got a couple of Vintage 30s I'll prbably put back into one of the Fender cabs.
