| nic | taking dents out of chassis? I have a few dings in my Super Chassis. How should I bend them back to shape? Thanks, Nicholas |

If the frame is not bent, I would leave it very much alone. The faceplate looks fine, right? That's all you can see when you look at the amp anyway... You can't easily take dings out of metal without using some filler, and I don't think you want to do that to a chassis... Gil

| anonymous | I should have said there is a dent in the front of the chassis that causes the faceplate to mount bent. I tried hammering it out and seemed to only make a bunch of noise... Nicholas |

OK, since you had originally written "dings," I thought it was minor stuff. But a bend is a whole different story, I suppose. Still, I don't believe there is much you can do to correct that -- trying to picture the thing in my head. If you unloaded the chassis and whacked the thing with a rubber hammer, you might see some results... I don't know, I would just think it adds some charcater to the amp. Good luck, Gil

ever try drilling a small hole and using an automotive dent puller? if the area is bigger, you could also try the suctoin cup type |

Right, the thing is the auto trick works because you'r trying to remove fott deep dent. By the time you get it to an inch or so, you use filler and handle it that way. However, I would thing the dent in the amp chassis can't be that deep, and 1/4" or so may be about to make the faceplate look bent... Funny, I though "How about leveling the front surface of the chassis with filler?" Then, of course, you pot and jack bushings would be to short to use anymore. Gil

Here' how you do it.......I've done this successfully many times. First strip the front panel......find a couple of suitable blocks of wood......I'd say about 2"x6". Now find a good stiff piece of wood or preferrably a pice of steel angle iron or channel......the key here is it wont bend under pressure. Now take a good size C clamp and set up this rig so that the non-movable part of the C clamp is on the inside of the panel right over the deepest part of the dent and the wood spacers are against the outside of the panel with the screw part of the clamp up against the angle iron(or channel). Now tighten it till it starts to apply pressure.....slowly tighten the C clamp until it start to push the dent out. Dont go too much at once. You may have to move it around a few times depending on the shape and size of the dent. What you are doing here id effectively creating a small press. Remember that the steel will spring back a little so you might have to go a little past where you think in order to get it perfect. Go slowly and keep checking your progres! I have used this technique to make bably bent Fenders look perfect! Good luck. Peter S |
