Can I interchange EL34's with... Hey does anyone know if EL34's are interchangeable with KT88 or 6550 tubes? This is the most knowledgable and helpful site I have found on the net. I appreciate it being relative new at servicing my own tube amps. |

Bronco, Yes you can interchange them, but ONLY after rebiasing the amp. Tim C. |

EL34's to 6550 conversion; 1.) Locate the 47K resistor above the bias pot and solder another 47K in parallel (across the existing resistor). 2.) Set the bias pot to max or minimum (everyone has their opinion on this). 3.) Move the Feedback tap to the 8ohm tap (it should be on the 4ohm tap right now) 4.) Install the EL34's and re-bias. 5.) Plug in and play! Hope it helps; Trace PS: If you are not sure how to bias an amp (if you are forget I said anything! ha, ha) please take it to a tech who is experienced because there are things in there that will stop your heart and we want you alive!!!!!! :^) |

We try hard! (ha, ha) Everyone here is really good about that I think. You can always post questions here and sure there might be one or two silly fools who will "flame" you but rest assured that your question WILL get answered (if it's answerable--ha, ha). I know everyone tries to help as much as possible here!!! Trace |
