| Dan | Low volume and distortion from Bandmaster Reverb. Help! I just finished blackfacing my 71 Bandmaster Reverb. I also replaced the screen grid resistors with 470k, 2w NTE flameproof resistors. For testing, I am running it into two 8 ohm speakers from a silverface Twin. Now, I know the BMR wants to see a two ohm load, but everyone says Fenders are good for 100% mismatches. But the volume level is really, really low, and it starts distorting at around 3-4 on the dial. The amp on ten is not really loud at all. The tone is actually pretty good. The amp is not noisy or intermittent. Is this a bad soldering job in the amp? I did remove and replace one of the Twin speakers before doing this. Could I have replaced the speaker leads wrong? I am new at this. I figured I would get pops and crackles if the soldering is bad. Twisting the bias pot didn't make much difference at all to the distortion. Thanks for any suggestions! Dan |

| John Stokes | Misconception.... The BMR head wants to see a 4 ohm load. That is unless you have put in a SR output tranny. Stock Bandmaster iron is for 4 ohms. Have you measured all the voltages and are they in the ballpark? Can you inject a signal and follow it through with an o-scope to see where things get screwey? |

Dan, Did you really use 470K screen resistors or is that a typo? Usual Fender value is 470ohm. That could be a problem if they're really that big. Daver |
