Ampeg Model V-4
Dear Gentlemen,

I have a early 70's Ampeg, Model V-4 guitar head.
Does any one know how much it's worth?

Thanks !
Dave S.

Take a look at E-Bay for one opinion... I paid $250 for a early 70's V-4B in good shape (from a cool cat in Minn.). I found a Guit. model for a friend here in Seattle for $300 - this is a fairly expensive vintage gear market.
hope this helps.

Hi Dave,

I'd say if it's in good shape, it's worth absolutely not less than $300 and more like at least $400 and up for an early model. From what I understand, through the years the newer amps don't measure up to the originals. Mine says The Ampeg Company, Inc., Linden, N.J on the rear. I'd rather have my Ampeg than most Marshalls. Mine has been sitting awhile and I'm getting ready to put in some good 6L6GC's in place of those expensive 7027A's. Take Care, T.B.

I picked my V4 halfstack (original cab) for $450. Head was $250, cab for $200. It's been converted to use 6550's, so it's extreamly clean and loud. Great amp with lots of nice features ahead of it's time and reverb that'll kick any fender in the face (ouch). I wouldn't really put out more than $300 for the head though... almost sold it, very glad I came to my senses.

A Big Thanks to all who responed. You have been a great big help. The reason for my asking was to find out it's worth before turning this beast into a Twin clone....

Thanks Again!

Dave,

Don't do it!! Sell the amp to someone who isn't looking for a "twin clone" and use the money to craft one from scratch - the older amps are disappearing and the V-4 is a great sounding amp in it's own right.

I second that, V-series ampegs rule on the loud and clean.
