Fender Reissue Reverb Tanks
I`ve always owned the Fender reverb tanks from the early 60`s but had trouble using true bypass pedals with them like the Fulldrive 2, they would make the amp pop when you`d step on the boost. A friend of mine bought a reissue Fender reverb tank and it doesn`t pop with the Fulldrive 2.The reissue I have sounds good but I hear there are some changes you can make to the reissues to make them sound a little more like the ones from the early 60`s so I`d appreciate any suggestions. Thanks Keith

I haven't changed the cap, but the 6K6 and NOS 12AX7 and 12AT7 are definitely recommended, and you don't even have to dig around the circuit board....

I have a reissue Fender reverb. Stone stock it sounded OK, but not great. A little brittle. The first and easiest step towards improvemen6t is to change the tubes for good NOS versions, and use a real 6K6. Secondly, you can change the 250 pf ceramic cap on the pot/jack board to a larger value to let more low end through. Terry Buddingh recommended 390 pf, but I found that 470 pf sounds even better. I used a silvered mica cap here. Start off by just doing those relatively simple (and easily reversable) mods and see how you like it. That may be good enough for you. There are some additional, more extensive mods (yet still completely reversable) that you can do to tame the high end if it still needs a little massaging. Let us know and we'll take it from there. I would recommend the minimum amount of modding to get a tone you like.

Sometimes, the .05 uF cap feeding the cathode follower will leak and place a small DC voltage on the input of the effect (the cathode follower feeds the dry side of the MIX control). Switching the effect in and out will then cause a pop.
