cosideration...IF...I can find one to buy one!...can someone
help?...this particular book is "out of print"...used is just

check out the resources page here at ampage.
I think two exellent resources (of many)are
1) All the tube info @ GEO Thanks to RG.
2) Kevin O'Connors' books from London Power

Skip the Torres's book, for the $40 to $50 bucks it costs you could learn more(acurately too.) at AMPAGE. IMHO

I can't recommend a good book specific to guitar amps that's currently in print. Skip the Torres, Funk, O'Connor, Gerald Weber and Aspen Pittman books unless you're interested in erroneous and/or overly subjective information. For good tutorials in tube theory, I suggest Valve Amplifiers by Morgan Jones and Beginner's Guide to Tube Audio Design by Bruce Rozenblitt.

Dave, do you really consider O'Connor's books to be erroneous or overly subjective? I mean, I've seen typos and other minor mistakes, but it surely ain't full of shit.

Pittman's book is good for the schems, which is the only reason to buy it.

Never seen Torres, Funk, or Weber.

The torres, funk, pittman, weber books are ok for a beginner. They're, in fact, easier to read, sort of like 1st grade books and shit. O'Connor books, although more in-depth, are actually too much for someone who doesn't know R from E. I always thought one must start at the bottom to fully and gradually understand what they want to learn. ...and yes, while pittman, weber and torres put their hidden (and not so hidden) messages in their books, the basic info in there is still about right. Buying those books, doesn't mean we'll go and buy boob tubes, or torres kits, or funks amps. Right?

For one thing, his explanation of transconductance is totally ass-backwards. That certainly doesn't inspire confidence! :)

For what it's worth, I've been told there are different versions of his book avaliable. Corrections have been made, and some things were clarified. So some older texts may have things in them that are wrong, but may be ok now. I'm curious though, the book I have seem to explain transconductance ok, what's it say in yours?
