Re: Fender to "D-word",anyone? I’m interested in which schem you used. I have one from 1977 and from 1997. So: 1. What did you use as plate/cathode resistors: the “old” 100k/1K5 or the newer version which uses higher values. Does the newer version have more gain? 2. EQ-clean. Which values for the pots and resistors in the clean-channel? Have you tried the “deep”-switch? What does this do, boost bass? 3. EQ-drive. Did you use trimpots or fullsize-frontpanel-mounted pots. Which values to use for the capacitors in this section? 4. Suggestion for capacitor-types in the tone sections? 5. Presence. Is it really usefull? E.q. I always turn it down on a Marshall: too bright. 6. Powersupply-filtering: Lots of uF in the newer version. Since I which to use a SF Twin, the old PS-setup (2x 100 uF/4x 20 uF) would be easier to use. What is the effect of using less/more filtering on the PS? What would be your suggestion? 7. Powersupply-voltages: do you have exactly the same voltages as given in the schematics? Is it a ‘must’ to have the same voltages, what is % tolerance? Your help, and other suggestions, are really appreciated! Gerben |

My 50-w ODS clone resides in what used to be a SF bandmaster. MJ |

Was it worth it? And did you do the '97? I have a SF Bassman that has been a Boogie Mark III for 13 years that I'm itching to rebuild. ..Joe |

Was it worth it? Yes, the amp sounds great. It still probably needs to be tweaked a bit but overall I've very satisfied with the results. The OD channel is very nice. It's still not my "ultimate amp" though since it just doesn't have the bark and spank of a nice low wattage class A EL84 amp (like my Carmen Ghia). However, I really don't think I'm going to find an amp that can do all the sounds I want since in many cases we're talking about diametrically opposed tones (I want thick preamp distortion ala the ODS for my lead stuff, but want a class A, overdriven power section for my overdriven rhythm, and a big, warm, clean sound with lots of headroom, etc. I made a 70's-80's version of the ODS (i.e. without the skyliner EQ). I skyliner required too many pots for my chassis and I was looking more for the earlier oDS tone anyways. MJ |
