My Fender got a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????@#
hi,

I own a fender super six reverb. It is a good amp for clean sounds. It worked alright until i heard a TSAF!!!! and my amp turned off.I switched of the amp and i waited till the tubes were cool.In the meantime i checked the tubes and the third one (12AT7- reverb driver) had gone off.I replaced it with another one of the same type.I switched on the amp,I played for a while with reverb and suddenly i heard some weird noises (klatch!!!!!!).I switched it of again and the tube i replaced was really hot.I decided to open the amp and a strange thing placed to the right of the third 25mfd capacitor from the left was burned or something like that.Hope you can help me.Thanx in advance!

P.S.:Hope there is a solution to the problem.

Please, more detail - gone off?

I don't have a layout handy, and neither does the fender amp field guide, but they do have a schematic.

Can you describe what's left of the burned thing?

Padelis,

We need a little more info to help you out.........

The 12at7 reverb driver going out should not cause the amp to switch off unless the 6.3v filiment heaters were shorting and knocking out the whole circuit.

Is the burnt out part you are talking about the cathode resistor next to a 25uf bypass cap?

Are the power tubes glowing red when you turn on the amp?

Is the mains fuse blowing when you turn on the amp?

Let us know,
Benjamin.

This is a long shot, but:
it's possible you have some bad/dirty sockets (or bad connections to a socket or sockets) which are causing intermittents including the filament supply (if what you mean by going "off" is no glow inside the tube). This could also make "TSAFF!" noises among other sounds. Try wiggling the tubes around a bit with the covers off (carefully!) and see if they come "on" and "off" or if there are any other noises.

The third 25uF/25V from the left in a BF amp is the mixer, I think.. if the resistor it's next to is "burnt" (I mean the one that attaches to the same places the capacitor attaches to), you may have problems which are going to need a little more personal attention from a tech.

The fancy word is onomotopia - a word that recreates the sound that happened, like BAM!

That particular sound reminds me of an arc or other destructive discharge.

Let's see. When I say gone off I mean it broke. The output tubes doesn't blow red when I turn it on.This burned thing maybe it is a resistor but i can't recognise it because it is burned and the only that remained is the steel inside it and it is going to burn the 25uF next to it.HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S.:I am form Greece and here I don't think that any tech will fix it.My dad who bought the amp in 1979 has take it to some of the best techs here in Greece but instead of fixing it the amp was coming back in worst condition.I also found that the bias was wrong.
