GC can handle higher plate voltage (500V) and dissipation. Check out the Triode Electronics site for spec sheets.  
evolution:  
6l6->6l6G->6l6GA->6l6GB->6l6GC  
GC being the latest & toughest.

Also, WGBs have a softer tone and lower headroom.

Peter,  
also ... the 5881 tube was a mil-spec  
version of the 6L6GB. GB specs are  
360V max plate voltage capable of putting  
out 23 watts, the GC has max plate voltage of 500  
VDC and can dissipate 30 watts. But remember,  
Fender put up to 425VDC on 6V6GT's which were  
only supposed to handle 325VDC max ... guess  
Leo wanted power and headroom, and it seems that any  
good NOS tube can handle the excessive voltage.
