Sears Silvertone Twin Twelve
I bought this cheap, $180, to gut and rebuild as something else. To my surprise, the tubes appear to be the originals( they have Silvertone written on them) and the speakers have Jenson stickers on them. I'm wondering if this is a collectible. Does anyone know about these amps? It has 2-6L6's, 4-12AX7's, and 2 6FQ7's.

Hi Mike,

My vote would be to keep it original. It has some collectibility. I just have the head, wish I had the speaker cab as well. I need to go through mine, paid seventy five dollars for it but never fired it up. Mine also has the Silvertone labelled tubes.

I hear it's good for blues, brakes up early, etc. I remember in the sixties a couple of friends of mine who were in a band had a pair of the same amps. They couldn't afford Fenders but they still sounded pretty darn good. They did a lot of the old Stones and other groups from the '62 to '65 era. Have you fired it up yet? There is a Silvertone site on the Web. Just search for Silvertone. If I can find the address I'll post it.

Well, good luck to you. Terry

these amps are still not what I would call collectable, but they can sound terrific, don't gut it...

Sounds like a refurb is in order, not a rebuild. Found a schematic @ Triode. Tough to read. It's not in the usual format.

I find I learn a lot when I see a "different" schematic by redrawing it into whatever format I am more familiar with.

Mike,

There is a Silvertone site at:

They are somewhat collectable, but don't have the value at all of old Fenders, etc. They show up for sale on Ebay a lot. Usually the reverb on them sucks, but the rest is OK. You may want to recap it and see how it sounds.

Yes I would just clean the amp up as opposed to hod rodding it. Some kids, like myself are willing to pay up to $400 for this amp. Well, I guess I wouldn't pay $400 but...
