Re: how much current for tweed deluxe?
Well, Whit is a friend of mine and I didn't want to hurt his feelings by saying I don't agree with him, and then him sittin all alone in his little tiny workshop room surrounded by a dozen half finished homebrew projects sitting on his old beat up Leslie-cabinet-work bench thingy, wrongly thinking I think he's a freakin' ediot or anything like that. (*breathe here*)

Ya know what I mean jelly bean?

So, I prefaced my reply by agreeing with you "this time" but with an unwritten implication that "next time" I promise to agree with Whit so he won't commit flippin' suicide over it all. ;>)

Bruce,

Thanks for the clarification...

... now my wife won't have to go thru the pain of finding me swinging from a rope over 12 unfinished amps in my workshop. ;-)

... I've actually finished a few this summer, and built a real bench too!

BTW, I did finally put together a SK Jr from the eyelet card you sent my way via Steve M. It was quiet, toneful, easy to assemble, and I really liked the feedback control.

Highly recommended to anyone as a first project, assuming you're offering this as a kit (?) If not you should.

Bruce, how can I determine the ma of a PT that I pulled from an old ADMIRAL TV set?...I've trashed the remaining TV, so I can't use the "tube-compliment" method!...it measures 293-0-293 and has the nessesary windings...thanx Frank....oh BTW.. its gonna be my 3rd 5E3 homebrew...

I apologize if this question is out of context :]

Wow! If it's from an old TV it will probably have PLENTY of current behind it!

I'd be thinking hollow state diodes and build a tweed Super here... with a pair of 5881s or 6L6WXTs and two 12AX7s.

Hmm, I realize I'm in the minority here, but I like 360V.

I do have a 5E3 at 300V and it does sound good though. However, I also noticed very little voltage changes in 5E3 design when changing from 5Y3GT/5V4/5AR4-GZ34.

In my 5E3, I got 20 more volts B+ from a 5V4 and another 15 or so from a GZ34.
