Re: Another product
More years ago than I will admit(g), I worked in an amplifier factory (Earth Tube Guitar AMps), and we used a piece of tolex and a melted black crayon (heat gun) and we repaired production flaws in tolex with very good results.

Andy are you pulling are legs?

Do you mean standard kindergarten issue Crayolas?

I could maybe see this with a lacquer stick or something.

I kid you not ! We had used a scrap of Tolex, a hunk of crayon, melted it and pressed the tolex down, to produce a pattern. It worked surprisingly well when fixing a tear (after glueing down the edges). I used this a few times when repairing amps and cleaning them up for resale as well.

Re: Regluing Black Tolex, anyone?
Steve,

Tolex is actually a brand name for a vinyl wallcovering.

There is a wallcovering adhesive designed specifically

for adhering overlaps with these materials. Go to your local wallcovering store, or pro paint store and ask for "vinyl to vinyl" adhesive (Various brands). This info comes from 15 years of paperhanging experience, not amp-making, but it's another resource. I'm going to be recovering an amp soon and will be trying wallcovering adhesives --we'll see what happens

Eric,

I am glad you responded because I have some vinyl to vinyl adhesive here. I was not aware that it could be used for amp covering. Before I was aware of animal glue I used the 3M adhesive #77 and did not like it. Thanks!!!!!!!!

I've used Elmer's SAF-T Contact Cement on several tolex covered projects I've done. I got it at the local Lowes. You paint it on both surfaces (tolex and smooth bare wood, in my case) and let it dry for a while before sticking it on. It has worked great. Some of my rack cabs where done about 6 years ago and there has been no peeling or bubbling yet.
