Marshall models ???
To all:

I want to become more familiar with some of the classic Marshall circuits. Can someone give me some insight into the classic Marshall models vs. their correct model #

(I.E. Plexi = model 22??)

A small list of the classics so I can reference the schematics would be great!

Many thanks,

Benjamin.

The basics are easy -

model 1986 is a 50W "bass" amp

model 1987 is the 50W lead aka "plexi"

model 1959 is the 100W version..

A 1986 differs from a 1987 by only a couple "bright" caps, and a few other little things..

a: tone stack (is a little different)

b: cathode circuit of the 1st stage (is seperated)

The 1986 is quite close to the 5F6-A in its basic overall layout. (put 'em side to side..)

Those are the "classics" anyhow; they'll take you up to teh early 70's. Someone else can pick up the thread from there..

Speed,

Thanks for the list! Have you ever built anything like the 20 watt 2 X EL84 Marshall tremolo amps? They look kind of interesting........never seen one in person though.

Yeah, not the trem version, but the regular one. It's a screamer. Highly reccomended!

Hey, you guys,

What about the 2203/2204 master volume heads??

Also, the 1962 Bluesbreaker/JTM45 circuit?

Those are classics, no?

just my $.02

absolutely.. I didn't mean to diss anyone's favorite amp head there! Just put those in as a starting point..

Actually for anyone that's into all things Marshall, you coud do a lot worse than buying "Marshall: The History of Rock".. lots of great archive pics, Steve Melkisethian odds & ends (tube info, ads, etc) and a heap o'schematics including a JTM 45 Schem with notes from Ken Bran on which caps go where for which model. Cool beans says me.
