5933 TUBE? (6L6 CLONE?) I HAVE A PAIR OF 5933. IS REALLY 5933 A CLONE TUBE WITH 6L6? IF SO, CAN I USE IT IN BASSMAN AMP OUTPUT WITHOUT ANY MODIFICATION? THANK YOU. |

Don't these tubes have a metal cap at the top? Internally (electrically), they are the same as a 6L6. But they are actually equivalent to an 807. They use a 5-pin base and have the plate terminal up on top, rather than on a base pin. This gives them the ability to withstand high plate potentials. They are actually catalogued as a low power transmitting tube. You can certainly build any amp calling for 6L6 tubes using the 5933s, but you will need appropriate sockets and plate caps. I would not recommend them in a guitar combo amp because the elements rattle quite a bit. They would be ok in a head amp, or more at home in a HiFi amp. |

I seem to recall someone selling adapters for those. Each adapter had a base that plugged into the amp, and the 5933 plugged into that. The base also had a plate cap wired to it, which you then clipped to the top of the tube. This allowed stock 6L6 amps to use the 5933. Anyone else remember this? Reid |
