Triode splitter question I want to split a signal to drive two different tone stacks (without any switching components). My inclination is to tie the grids together -- pins 2 to 7 for a 12AX7, and use separate plate Rs and cathode RCs. Would I want to try to isolate the grids from each other with a resistor ? |

Jay, If it were me, I would use the second gain stage as a cathode follower, and drive both tone stacks from its output. A 12AX7 CF should be able to handle this load pretty well. Ray Ivers |

Thanks Ray, I've played with a CF in this amp before and I didn't like what it did to the BF tone I was trying to maintain. I built it up with the grids connected and it sounds fine on both channels -- one being BF and the other dumble ODS. There was close to no difference for the BF channel but extra gain and a bit of treble on the ODS channel. |
