M&G p-p boards
Even though I've been building amps for a reasonably long time, I'm always looking for ways to do it better and quicker. The eyelet/turret board is usually the part that takes me the longest to build up and I'm hard to please with the end result. I want it to look like Harry Joyce built it. ;) (is that so much to ask??)

Anyhow, I checked out the new Marshall-style turret board from M&G and it's a *really* well made board.. like the way I'd make them if I was a better builder ;) Big MF resistors, top quality caps and solders so clean and shiny you could comb your hair in them. I wish I could build like this! It's also reasonably compact which should help it fit into lots of different chassis. I'm using mine in a 100W "mule" chassis OEI is going to use for 100W OT testing. Anyhow, I don't like to blatantly advertise my stuff here, (or anyone elses!) but when someone does a really nice job of something I think it's ok to point it out. That said, I think the M&G board is first rate, really well done. Keep it up Mike!

Joe,
Did the board come set up with the SuperBass/JTM45 values (.1 coupling caps/shared Rk/Ck on V1?) as pictured, or with 'lead amp' values and split cathodes. I also noticed ther are extra turrets on the already populated boards, vs the turrets only boards. I wonder if the turreted boards have those and the pic. was an older shot or what? Either way, they seem like a good value. I figure my tiem alone to cut and stake a board would be worth as much as the going price for these boards, so it would be like paying for the time and getting the parts for free ;)

I had my board done with the JTM45 values..which also appear in the earliest 100W heads along with the SB. The only difference (mod?) on mine was I requested 100K grid resistors on the outputs. I can't speak for Mike, but I think you can get the board made either way.

plus in my case it comes out much better looking.. ;) Seriously, that's about how I figure it too. He's also using that neat board like the old amps used with the holes in it so you can feed the leads up neatly. I like those kinds of details.

Grid resistors? you mean bias splitters? Otherwise, that seems like a unique mod to do.

I take it I'm not the only one who wonders if Harry Joice sold his soul to the devil to be able to be that neat ;)

.. and until we can legally run sweatshopps, or quit our day jobs, time IS much more valuable! I like the perf. board look, dont know if it's really an issue, but I think component cooling woudl be bettr here, plus as you say, MUCH easier to feed the wires up thru, and a more universal mounting could be achieved, w/o having to drill a lot of holes, and estra turrets coudl be added for those of us who like to tweak things a bit ;)
But I think the best thing aout the perf board is... well... it looks damn cool!

And Michael tells me using your OT in his amp kicks ass and takes names... a real tone dog!
I'm jealous.
Dr. Mike is a pretty cool dude for Ruskie!

Yes he is.. I'm glad he's on our side! ;)

using your OT in his amp..

In the interest of full disclosure, I should probably mention that I sold my very first tranny to Mike Kach. I don't know how he heard about OEI, but he tracked me down like a dog and I wound up selling him a hand-wound prototype bc I had no production units yet..
He's really knowledgeable, very particular about stuff and knows tone.. When he liked our OT I felt a bit more at ease about ordering a run of the things!*

*for anyone contemplating trying to get their spouse to let them buy one more "thing" for their pet amp, imagine trying to convince your significant other to sign off on you ordering up a truck load of trannies! It took some sucking up, lets leave it at that. ;)

I can imagine!! it's hard enough to get the fiancee to be nice about smaller purchases for one-off's *laugh*
