The older style transformers had a warmer overall quality and newer style transformers are tighter on the bottom and have a more upper mid focus. The older style tranformers were not Fender pulls.

Peter S	wreckboy, Thanks for the info. It's hard to determine sometimes what's fact and what's fiction in this buisiness. I'll take the word from someone who has actually owned a few of these amps anytime. You wouldn't happen to know what the impedance ratios of these trannies were....would ya? Peter

Sorry, unfortunately I only play my Trainwrecks :-)

and don't know anything about the inner workings of an amplifier :-(

I'm pretty limited, biasing (Express) and trying different tubes. The "Prototype" 15 watt Liverpool has an off the shelf transformer. This amp is a killer made from spare parts Ken had at his shop....Ken really knows how to put together an amplifier....the "Touch" and the "Ear" :-)
