Best octavia...
Which is the best octavia that I could build?
I like one that sounds like the one used by Hendrix or Scott Henderson (in the Dog Party cd)
Is it the Tycho Brahe? Does it sound that good with that audio trafo replacing the inductance?

Tychobrahe
Roger Mayer's advertising says the Tycobrahe Octavia was a copy of one of his earlier Octavias. He says it would sound crap on 9V, because it was designed to run on a 24V supply... might be an interesting experiment for anyone who's built the Tyco version.

Interesting!

I will try that. I've never liked the sound of that thing, it's always been a big joke here plugging it in and show my guitar buddys!

Replacing *what* inductance???

Hi R.G.
I'm sorry for the mistake. I saw the schematic again. I'm talking about the coupling tranformer.
I saw somewhere it can be replaced by another from Mouser. And by the way, excuse my English, please.

No need to apologize at all. I was just confused, because I don't remember any inductors in it.

Actually any one of several Mouser audio transformers can be subbed in there. The point is just to get a solid step up of about 2 or 3 to one. That's an impedance ratio of about 4 or 6 to one.

So 500ohms to 2K or 1K to 6K, something like that. It's not critical that I know of. I just spec'ed on that worked for me.

Thanks, R.G.!
If the ratio is the case, I'll start looking for that trafo...

By the way, R.G., I've just finished the Univibe clone I've built thanks to your great site and helpfull articles. It sounds great. Thanks a lot!!
Thanks to Aron, Tobias and Jim Radner too.
