| ryan c | painting/baking effects box's i saw on the geo site that he reccomends baking the box's between coats. does this just speed up the process or does it make the paint more durable? im using auto lacquer, is 200 dg. for an hour a good formula. i was thinking about laying foil down in my normal toaster. but, are the fumes a problem, is that going to make my toast taste like cancer bread?? thanks! ryan |

Ryan, maybe someone else can give you some better advice, but I try to bake between coats and I 'think' it makes the paint more durable. An hour per coat seems to be a bit long though...I do 15 mins and let it fully cool down before applying a new coat. The only thing I can say for sure is to watch out when you apply your finishing coat...the transparent thing (I don't know the english word for that)...baking it too long and too hot seems to burn it and give it a brown look. It doesn't give you a brown sound though Peter. |

| chuck | is paint thinner OK to clean the box? ive tried using paint thinner to clean my metal hammond box before i primed it. afterwords i read that you should use nail polish remover (acetone). is paint thinner no good, or one better then the other? thanks, chuck |

Some paint thinners, actually most, will leave a residue. Acetone will not. It'll suck the oils right out of your hands too so unless you like having the skin peel back starting from the ends of your fingernails, wear gloves. --johng |

Best to clean oils off with grease and wax remover. You can buy it in 1 litre tins from your local autoshop. Just pour some on a rag and wipe it over. Just be careful not to touch the box with your hands, because you will put oil on the box again from your hands. As for baking, I think it depends on the type of paint you use. Most auto paints that you buy only require air drying and baking them doesn't really have any affect Pete |
