What does the AMZ Minibooster do? Hi, I'd downloaded the schematic and PCB layout for the AMZ Minibooster a while ago and am now looking at it as my next project. It looks nice and simple, which is what I'm in the mood to work on, but the only problem is that I don't really know what the Minibooster does! It doesn't look like your typical fuzz circuit, which is about all I've built so far . . . So what does it do and what does it sound like? Thanks for any help! |

It's a signal booster - i.e. it makes your input signal louder. Good for driving a bunch of pedals and if you turn it up, it can overdrive the front of your amp and add distortion. Aron |

Oh, I see. I guess I'll build one then and save it for a multi-effects box or something like that then! Thanks Aaron! |

This is strange...I'm trying to put together the minibooster at the moment, but boosting my signal is exactly what it doesn't do... I haven't found J201's yet so I'm using MPF-102's...I've read somewhere that these aren't as hot as the J201's so maybe this is causing it. I'll try it again a few times, I'm sure I can get it working BTW I've read alot about transistors and pinouts EBC and what they do, why they do it and where they need to be connected. Is there any such source for FET's or are they basically just comparable with transistors ? Peter. |

jfets, at least the j201's, are, from left to right, drain-source-gate. (looking at flat side, pins facing down) Aron's got a great link to his page that covers all the basics like this. |
