Nick Looking for some parts
I was looking on the radioshack web site for some parts (J201 and IRF520). Then I found out that their american site doesn't ship to Canada. Their Canadian site doesn't have the parts I need. If anyone in the U.S.A. is ordering these parts soon could they please e-mail me and maybe we could work something out (I would pay the cost of parts and shipping of of course). This would be greatly appreciated.

Nick,
I had the same problem and somebody told me that Electrosonic (in Toronto) carries the J201 fets. I can't say for sure because I never bothered to check.
Almost any electronics place should have the IRF520 MOSFETs.
It's possible to substitute the J201s with another type, for example the 2n5457.
I built the Shaka Braddah 3 and Sweet Thing with 2n5457 fets and was very pleased with the results.

Gord,

Seems like you've built a lot. Which pedals have you built so far?

Ha! Probably not a fraction as many as you guys!
I'e built TS9 type pedals for me and some of my friends. I winged them; no two are alike, but all pretty good. A few Fuzz Faces. Again, no two alike. I've built some bass fuzzes for the guy in my band. A TB Mark2. A Rocket. A Sweet Thing. A SB3.
A SB3 with modded tone controls. Let me see.....
Old Big Muff....Son of Screamer....probably more that I just can't remember.

I have been doing this on and off for a few years now, but never studied electronics formally. I've done tons of reading, though.

I like to make it fun for myself. I have a socketed board for TS9 type circuits where absolutely everything is socketed. I experimented a lot on it. Now I have another board with eighty-something sockets for any one- two- or three transistor circuit. The possibilities on it are limitless!

OK, you win the prize for the most sockets on a circuit!

Sounds like you have built some cool stuff!

I know that the canadian radioshacks carry the IRF510 but they are $4 each and the IRF520 are
$1 american each. Active electronics gave me
a cross for the IRF510 but they are $8 each.
If you could tell were I could find the IRF510
or IRF520 for a half decent price (1 or 2 bucks) that would be
great. Thanx
