| Gord | Another crazy idea Hello. So much has been said about the spectacular Jack Orman Minibooster circuit and its endless list of applications. While the talk of the town lately has been the Tone Bender pedals, I had a (dumb?) idea! Basically, the TB circuit is like a Fuzz Face, with the first gain stage rebiased, and an extra input transistor. (Thanks a million to Aron for sharing all of his info yesterday. I now have a Supa Fuzz and a TB schematic drawn out!) Here are my questions/ideas: -Is it possible to replace the input transistor with a minibooster circuit? Is this a silly idea? How might that affect the sound? -Or, how about keeping the input germinium transistor and swapping Q2 and Q3 with miniboosters? -Or, how about doing to the Tone Bender what Jack did with the 100W plexi and do away with all of the germanium transistors? Let's set up three minibooster gain stages the way this pedal is set up! Feedback? |

>Is it possible to replace the input transistor with a minibooster circuit? Is this a silly idea? How might that affect the sound? This would work fine. I'm not sure that it would be really cool, but try it! >Or, how about keeping the input germinium transistor and swapping Q2 and Q3 with miniboosters? I don't know how you would do this. > Let's set up three minibooster gain stages the way this pedal is set up! What do you mean by this? It would be like the Booster+ (3 mini-booster circuit). |

One thing the MB has a high in z the SF etc has a low very nolinear in Z this can be a big part of the sound. If you inject a triangle wave into a grounded emitter stage the gain changes with the collecter current. The wave curves outward this causes a different harmonic content going into the FF stage. Build it both ways could be fun this would be good ear training. When I build an effect I think in modules of tone. R.G.s Fx buss is a very cool thing it looks to be a great way to learn tone modules |
