Stumped by KS 69
The KS 69 parts layout on Lazyfinger has me stumped. I'm confused by the wiring of the pots and the power input. Can anyone who has built this help me out? I assume that +9v can go anywhere to ground, but where does -9V connect? Also, the way I read the parts layout I should have the input wired to the wiper of the bias pot with a jumper to the 1M resistor then to ground. Is that correct? Similar question about the volume pot- output to wiper with a jumper to the 1M resitor then to ground, #1 after the .1 uf capacitor, and #3 straight to ground? One more question - what's that hole for between the solder point for terminal 1 of the volume pot and the .1 uf capacitor?

At the junction of the 33K resistor and the contour pot.

Correct.

That hole seems to be redundant.

Note: the 220K resistor on the layout should be 220R.

thanks Stuart. I actually just bypassed the 1 meg resistors but now that I know what to do with them I'll probably use them. What are they for anyway? Noise reduction?

I have a question that on my parts layout, for the trangister,it doesn't say which I use. I know why but It would be very easier to see one. Is this mean that each trans. have slight difference between same numbered trans?
Can anyone please post the OffBoard wiring diagram?

Thanks

I drew that layout, but it's not too great, and this circuit is simple enough to build on perfboard - I actually recommend doing this, it's easier!
The trannies I used are AC128, but any small-signal germanium suitable for FuzzFace clones (which seems to be at least half of the still available sm.sig. germ. trannies ;P) will do. Most important thing is to get the gain range right. Read RGKeens "technology of the FuzzFace" for more info.

Mike -
Don't be so hard on your layout. Once I figured out the wiring it works VERY well. I built one using a your layout on a PC Board and using matched transistors from Steve Daniels and it works great. I've been playing with the basic fuzz face circuit for a few weeks now and the Kama Sutra is the first I've built that has NO noise gate effect. By the way, I also have a pair of NKT-275 transistors I direct ordered from Mike Fuller - I A/B'd them with Steve's transitors(I used sockets on the KS 69) and Steve's sounded every bit as good. They also cost about $9 less a pair. Way to go Steve!
