Leslie effect recommendations
Looking for recommendations for good leslie type sound.

a few weeks back i heard a local garage band jam and one of the guitar players was using a boss BF-2 into a Peavey classic 30 amp. had the flanger setup to do a trem / vib type sound it i have to admit it sounded pretty damn good.

i do remember back in the 80's that Korg made a pedal that was supposedly a "leslie" simulator and it DID sound pretty cool.

thanks,

The leslie effect on my POD sounds great. There are only two speeds like on a real leslie. Also like a real leslie, it slowly speeds up and slows down to tempo.

Nic,

Thanks, the POD sounds cool but I'm more interested in an analog stompbox type to put in front of my amp.

I don't know much about it from the guitar end, but for organ, my far and away favorite is the Dynacord CLS-222. Good luck finding one, though.

I believe you are talking about the Korg G4 or G3 - I can't remember which. Never played through one, but the controls look very interesting - simulated mic placement, adjustable acceleration, etc. Warren Haynes of Gov't Mule uses one quite a bit. Discontinued, but probably not that hard to find.

Another pedal that is very easy to find is the H&K Rotosphere - great Leslie distortion, not a very convincing rotary simulation, but it may work better for guitar than for organ. In any case, they look cool, with a 12AX7 showing through a window in front.

Hope this helps.

I saw Gov't Mule a couple years ago and Warren was playing through a H & K Rotosphere. A local guy who knew them was sitting in on B-3 with a real Leslie and I was knocked out by the sound of the Rotosphere. Warren sounded better than the real thing!

There are plenty of swirly-toned devices out there though. I use a cheap DOD flanger that has something wrong with the clock. Won't do any nice flanging anymore but set fast, does a decent rotating thing. Tried one that wasn't broken...didn't sound as good!
Tone is where you find it :)

"Tone is where you find it :)"

how true... and that's what i'm hoping for.

i would much rather find something that is the odd-ball.

i guess what got me going on the leslie kick was hearing Ringo Starr doing "It Don't Come Easy".

do you know if that's Clapton playing on that? Sure sounds like it.

If you want a leslie in a smallish package the Spin is pretty decent emulation. It even has presets for guitars.
