Price 49 smackaroonies Canadian.
Are these worth gettin?

Ken,

They're easy to mod to TS9 or TS808 specs. Might try and talk them down a bit. Just tell them that they're not as good as the TS9's so they shouldn't charge you as much! Anythings worth a try. Try it before you buy it. The TS10 is similar to TS9's (except for one resistor and the opamp). The amp amp apparently makes most of the difference. Personally I can't hear it, but that's just me.

I've got a TS10, have had it for years. I finally like it, but it is HEAVILY modded. Poor sounding stock, and it had the right op amp too.

The TS10 is much like the TS9 and TS808, but it has an added transistor in the signal path (check out RG Keen's fantastic Tube Screamer article). You can remove it and make the circuit like an old TS808, but the TS10 will then make a chirping noise when the gain and vol is up full.

If I had to do it all over again, with the info available on the net, I would build one from scratch or buy a reissue TS to mod. My $0.02 American.

Is there any way you can try it before you buy, to see if you like it?

some TS10's have the jrc4558 and sound good. Remember the 2 resistor output buffer mod only seems to make a difference with some tube input preamps, take a look at R.G.'s site look for the ts writeup.

I've done comparisons between stock TS9 RI,TS7,TS808 and some others.

Honestly, I can't hear much differences between the 808 and the TS7 (stock 4558 inside..).
Maybe the 808 is a bit smoother, richer, but it's almost the same, so don't spend big bucks or a lot of time in modding stuff.

The 9RI is the harshest sounding one.

So, in order:
ts808-ts7-ts9RI (nice case, though).

My 2 French francs answer...
