Bias knob for Fuzz Face - What's it do/is it worth it? Looking for feedback from anyone who's added a bias knob to a reissue Fuzz Face (a la Fulltone). Any info on how it affects the sound would be appreciated. Thanks. |

It cleans up the Fuzz sound so you can play some chords without sounding like a washing machine at full tilt. I thought it worked very nicely when I made the '69 clone. The 'Contour' control is worth putting in there too IMO. ... Ian |

Another thing. To save drilling another hole in your FF case, just leave the 'Fuzz' pot on full all the time, tuck it inside the case and mount the 'bias' knob on the case to vary the fuzz. I find that FF's sound best with both the Fuzz and Vol up full anyway using the guitar's volume pot to control things. This is probably nothing new BTW. ... Ian |

I have a fuzz face that I put NOS AC128's in. The unit is very buzzzzzzzyyy. Will adding this bias pot help? Also, I have tried 2 other sets of AC128's and they all sound like this. I have varying gains from 90 up to 175. CJ |

It's similar to backing off the volume control on your guitar a little, since it adds a series resistance of 0-50k to the input. If you use another pedal before the fuzzface it is useful. |

same w/ silicon fuzz's too? i agreee that the fuzz pot is best maxed and could of been put inside my germ. fuzz. I was thinking of building a silcon one, do they behave the same as the germ. ones. Just wondering, b/c i think i might try putting the pot inside like you suggested. thanks for the tip! chuck |

Chuck, Build Aron's Lava Rim 2 on his site, it is a silicon fuzz face with diodes to ground to smooth out the signal, socket the diodes and you can take them out to check out the sound of a silicon FF, and it has a bias pot, as well as trimmers to "tune in" the transistors you used.
