Yeah, ammonium and sodium persulfate etches copper just fine. I use it all the time at work to microetch copper for a roughened surface topography at 1/2 to 1 lb/gal and 1% sulfuric acid. It give a great topography for photoresist and solder mask adhesion. Great points and tips. It must be hard to buy in small quantities for home use. I've only seen it sold in 25 kg bags!

25Kg of persulphate? *I* can only find it in 500g jars, in Australia quite a few electronic suply places carry it. If you only want 5 grams the hairdressers use it too (!) that's where i get my acetone, little brushes, gloves, and black nailvarnish to touch up dinged rack equipment ;-)
